WashSaleCalc is a free wash sale calculator. It runs in your browser. There is no account to sign in to, and your trades stay in your browser.
Using the calculator
Type the ticker and the trade date from your broker's confirmation, not the settlement date. Your date shows up right away. Under More options, add every buy of the same ticker from 30 days before to 30 days after the sale, in any account, including dividend reinvestments.
Saved trades
Press Save to keep up to 3 trades in this browser. Clearing your browser data removes them. PRO in the Wash Sale Tracker app keeps every trade.
Calendar reminder
Add to calendar downloads an .ics file with the day you can trade again. Open it to add the date to Apple Calendar, Google Calendar or Outlook.
The app
The Wash Sale Tracker app for iPhone and Android keeps your trades grouped by ticker and warns you before a trade that would wash a loss. You get a free heads-up 7 days and 2 days before your date, at 9:00 AM your time. PRO adds an 8:00 AM ET reminder on the day.
Why is my date later than day 31?
The 61-day window counts calendar days. If day 31 falls on a weekend or an NYSE holiday, you cannot trade that day, so the calculator shows the next trading day. We use NYSE's published holiday calendar where available (currently through 2028) and NYSE's standard holiday rules for later years through 2040; unscheduled closures can only push the trading day later. Dates outside 2024 through 2040 are marked as estimates.
Can I rely on this for my taxes?
Use it as a guide. WashSaleCalc gives an educational estimate based on IRS Publication 550 and 26 U.S.C. §1091. It cannot see your whole situation, such as trades in other accounts or your spouse's accounts. Check the result with a tax professional before you trade or file.
